GEELONG TO PLAY WEST COAST IN AFL
By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS v WEST COAST EAGLES GEELONG will play the West Coast Eagles next Saturday afternoon at 2:20PM the AFL announced today. Tickets go on sale Monday, starting at $79 for standard up to $132 for premium.
West Coast beat Carlton in a thriller last night at Subiaco Oval, in a game the Blues will quite probably be bleating on about for some time yet after missing out on a free kick in the closing seconds of the game. They were also only one of two sides to defeat the Cats this season, by 8 points at Subiaco in July.
Joel Corey remains in doubt to play again this season
with what is being termed a groin injury; he failed to train with the
main group yesterday and has not played since round 21 against Adelaide
after missing just one match until that point. Other than that the Cats
have a clean bill of health while the Weagles would be sore you'd think
after last night's bruiser with Carlton
AFL 2011, ROUND 16, FRIDAY 8 JULY 2011 20:30 AEST, SUBIACO
BACK TO BACK losses for the Geelong, after defeat by the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco Oval last night, the Cats starting off early but the Eagles' 9 unanswered goals which coincided with when we began monitoring the game via the web (audio and later video). Geelong trailed by as much as 40 points in the second quarter, but managed to pull the gap back to single figures early in the third term. They had a realistic chance to win the game in the final quarter but inaccurate kicking and missed opportunities up forward really cost the Cats, the Eagles kicked a little straighter and made the most of their inside 50s and held on by 8 points. James Podsiadly, who finished with 3 goals, had a chance to make the deficit just 3 points with minutes remaining, but could only manage a behind.
