2014 AFL DRAW RELEASED; CATS OPEN SEASON AGAINST CROWS UNDER LIGHTS
Ben Jensen 2 November 2013

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG host the Adelaide Crows on a Thursday night at Simonds Stadium in the second week of the opening round of season 2014. In a departure from last season when renovations at the ground saw the Cats play a handful of 'home' games all at Melbourne venues, the Cats have three games down at Geelong in the first ten rounds and play another two home games at the MCG in this time.

All up the Cats play seven home games at Simonds Stadium and two each at the MCG and Etihad Stadium. The first round fixture, on a Thursday night, is a little controversial being on a working night with more than half Geelong's members being Melbourne based you wonder at the logic. At least four of the seven home games are night fixtures with the final round match against the Lions another possibility.

The Melbourne home games are in round five against the Hawks at the Gee, Richmond in round seven also at the MCG; with Etihad games hosting Carlton on a Friday night in round twelve and Essendon in another Friday night fixture round fifteen. Traveling to Geelong during the season are the Crows, West Coast, North Melbourne, St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs, Fremantle and the Lions.

All up the Cats play five matches at the MCG, four at Etihad for a total of sixteen games in Victoria. They travel to Queensland and Sydney twice, Perth once to meet Freo and play their first game of fooTy at the Adelaide Oval. In the run in to the finals the Cats play every match in August in Victoria, the road trip to Sydney to play the Giants in round 18 (July 19) their last trip interstate.
