CATS LOSE TO GIANTS
Ben Jensen 4 April 2016

AFL ROUND 2 2016: GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY GIANTS V GEELONG CATS THE CATS crashed back down to earth on Sunday, losing to the Giants at Canberra's Manuka Oval. While many pundits who watch Geelong thought it was a danger game for the Cats, the loss still comes as a surprise after the emphatic round one win against the Hawks at the MCG. While many pointed to the six day break verses the Giants' eight and other factors, Coach Chris Scott was having none of it, rankled his team had put in a sub-par performance, the efforts of the Giants led by ex-Cats Steve Johnson and Shane Mumford notwithstanding.

Mitch Duncan found himself poleaxed by Mumford in the third quarter, a quarter that saw the Giants boot eight goals to the Cats' three to take a commanding four goal lead into the final quarter- the margin at one stage stretched to around six goals before late goals from Josh Caddy and Cory Gregson spared blushes. Duncan would have to be in doubt to play on Sunday at home against the Lions though the seven day break gives him some chance. Whether or not the Cats' brains trust will take the risk when others such as George Horlin-Smith and Dan Menzel are waiting in the wings is another matter.

In other news, sadly legendary country footy and 1980s VFL umpire Greg Sidebottom has passed away on the weekend, after suffering an apparent heart attack while umpiring a match between Ardmona and Undera. We were fortunate to have Greg as a client in our day job and are very saddened by his passing. He was always the first to reach for the wallet to pay for the coffees or lunch and very fair in how he did business.
