NEW GEELONG FLYER KANE TENACE NAMED RISING STAR
B Jensen May 5 2004

KANE TENACE, Geelong's newest five-gamer from Shepparton, has been named the AFL Rising Star for Round 6. Dubbed the 'Geelong Flyer', and perhaps unfairly compared to Geelong legend Bobby "Unbelievable" Davis, Tenace has impressed in his past three matches against the Crows, Dockers, Swans and Tigers.

Standing 182cm tall and a touch under 80 kilograms, Tenance is by no means the smallest at Geelong but is not big either. On the weekend he made dual Norm Smith medallist Andrew McLeod look like Billy Brownless in the speed stakes. Although he sprayed both shots at goal, there'll be plenty more to come.

Tenace was recruited from Under 18 TAC Cup team Murray Bushrangers, he played his junior footy with Shepparton. He made his debut in the fateful encounter against Carlton at Optus Oval in Round 2, kicking a goal with his very first kick. His second game against the Swans was not quite as good but in the other three matches he's averaged 11 kicks and 4 handballs.

Drafted at number 7, much was expected of Tenace. With Geelong languishing for the past few seasons, the fans demanded a 'ready made player'. That's what they've got with Tenace. But he's not the only thing to look forward to this season; what with likes of Andrew Mackie, Brent Moloney, Henry Playfair and Josh Hunt set to make this their season

This weekend Geelong takes on Hawthorn, rocked by multiple scandals involving drink driving and other misdemeanors. Oh, and they got beaten by Richmond last Friday night. What more motivation could a side as for?.
