Geelong's shocking start to season continues
April 6 2003

For the second consecutive Sunday Geelong fans traveled home after the match thinking of what could have been. The Kangaroos defeated Geelong by 23 points, 13.16(94) to 9.17 (71) on an afternoon that began with the unveiling of the Cats' 2002 VFL Premiership Flag and a lap of honour for retired stars Glen Kilpatrick, David Mensch and Brad Sholl. Kangaroos David King and Saverio Rocca each played their 200th AFL match, King having a game to remember while Rocca continued to struggle. Attendance was 22,528.

Best players for Geelong were Captain Steven King, Gary Ablett (who would have been best on ground had he not have missed 5 or 6 shots at goal), Ben Graham, Joel Corey and Mitchell White. White and Graham were rotated off the bench while King dominated all 'round the ground throughout the afternoon. Geelong's midfield did not deliver well enough while the forward line continued to struggle. Brent Grgic played very well in the backline when he was on the field.

Next Saturday Geelong faces the undefeated Collingwood at the MCG. Geelong may need to regain the desperately missed defender Tom Harley, forwards Cameron Mooney and Aaron Lord if they are to have any chance against the Pies.

Kangaroos 4.4 8.7 10.13 13.16 (94) d Geelong 4.6 6.10 8.14 9.17 (71)

GOALS: Kangaroos: Morell, King, Harding 2, Rawlings, Grant, Wells, A Stevens, Brown, Porter, Petrie
Geelong: Riccardi, White 2, Kelly, Kingsley, S Johnson, Corey, Ablett
