BOMBA WOJCINSKI OUT FOR SEASON; JIMMY BARTEL ESCAPES SUSPENSION; BYRNES A RISING STAR

In devastating news for himself and Geelong fans, David Wojcinski has been rule out for the rest of the season after injuring his knee against West Coast last Saturday night. Although pronounced OK on the night, examinations revealed Wojcinski had torn the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

JIMMY BARTEL ESCAPES BAN

Geelong on baller Jimmy Bartel escape a suspension, after accepting a reprimand as a penalty for tripping West Coast's Andrew Embley in the third quarter. Bartel should consider himself very fortunate not to have been suspended; the new system meant he was eligible for a reprimand only, without having to appear before a tribunal.

SHANNON BYRNES NAB RISING STAR FOR ROUND 2

Following his performance in the first two rounds, Shannon Byrnes, the 'Little Master', was named the AFL's NAB Rising Star for Round 2. The third member of the 'Shep Mafia' behind Captain Steven King and Kane Tenace, Wojcinski made his AFL debut in 2004, while on the Rookie List. After impressing in four games, Byrnes was elevated to the main AFL list just before the 2004 National Draft.
