did just enough to get the four points over the Bulldogs at Simonds
Stadium in tonight's twilight (or nightmare) fixture. Just under 25,000
souls braved the very cold and wet conditions, a few of them there early
to see the Geelong side belted by Footscray in the VFL. Dawson Simpson,
who was named first ruck in the AFL side, was dropped to the VFL, and
along with James Kelly (soreness) were left out of the AFL side, replaced
by Jew Bews and Brad Hartman. No standout goal kicker on the day, five
players kicking two each: Tom Hawkins, Shane Kersten, Mitch Duncan for
the Cats. The Cats' top four hopes remain alive, level on eleven wins
from fifteen games with Port Adelaide, Hawthorn and Fremantle but down
in fifth due to inferior percentage. Next week the Cats play Melbourne
at the MCG in a rare Saturday afternoon fixture.
