CATS BEATEN BY SUNS ON GOLD COAST; VFL WOMEN'S SIDE WINS FIRST GAME

AFL 2017 ROUND 7 GOLD COAST SUNS V GEELONG CATS GOLD COAST'S erstwhile skipper Gary Ablett Junior may be feeling homesick but he played on the winning side on Saturday night, the Suns winning by 25 points a final margin that like the week before against Collingwood, flattered the Cats. Geelong started off pretty well, conceding the first goal but soon after booting three straight but trailed at quarter time and for the rest of the match as it turned out. Three times the Cats piled on three unanswered goals but each time could only get to within 10 points, the Suns responding each time to push the lead out to a buffer of 20-ish points. The VFL side was also well beaten by Box Hill to the tune of 42 points in a match that kicked off at 11am and was delayed for ten minutes due to the siren becoming stuck; playing afterwards was the new VFL Women's team who in their match against Box Hill won by 56 points- poor old Box Hill only managing two behinds so have some work to do. Selectors 'dropped' three players this week but it later emerged at least some of them were really 'managed' and all traveled to the Gold Coast as emergencies. Tom Stewart actually took the field in place of Lachie Henderson who 'suffered a knock' to his chest in the warm-up. We'd expect some genuine omissions next week, some players deserving a run in the VFL, playing Essendon at Windy Hill at 12pm rather than the MCG that evening.
