DEJA VU AS THE CATS DEFEAT THE DEMONS
August 12 2003

GEELONG defeated the Demons by just under forty points at the MCG last Friday night in front of just over 22,500 people. The Cats lead from start to finish and was never really threatened. Matthew McCarthy again marked strongly up forward while kicking a lazy three goals. Veteran Peter Riccardi booted three first half goals while Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley and Darren Milburn were brilliant in defense.

As happened in round four, David Neitz was kept very quiet, kicking just the two goals. Surely Scarlett is favorite for his first ever All Australian selection as full back while Tom Harley would be not far behind. Cameron Ling continues to shake the term 'tagger' from his CV, picking up a lazy 24 possessions. It was otherwise a fantastic team effort for the Cats, only the four players with ten possessions or less. Melbourne, in contrast, had nine players with less than ten possessions, a sure sign of trouble.

Next round the Cats face the West Coast Eagles, on the rebound after two consecutive losses. The Eagles are sure to make plenty of changes after last week losing to the Adelaide Crows. The Crows were the first non Perth team to defeat the Eagles at home this season, after the Eagles were embarrassed by the Saints the week before.

Meanwhile, the Geelong Football Club and the Ford Motor Company of Australia have announced that one of the longest and strongest relationships in the world will be further extended. Already together for nearly eighty years, Ford and Geelong go hand in hand. The agreement will extend by a further five years.
