AFL ROUND 10 2012; GEELONG V GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY; MATCH PREVIEW
Ben Jensen 31 May 2012

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY TWO NEW CATS are set to make their debuts this Saturday against Kevin Sheedy's Greater Western Sydney Giants at Simonds Stadium. Harry Taylor will play his 100th game since debuting in season 2008. Jonathan Simpkin makes way along with Tom Hawkins who is having minor knee surgery and Jesse Stringer. Coming into the side is James Kelly, back from injury, and newbies Jordan Schroder and Lincoln McCarthy. In the VFL Geelong play North Ballarat in a curtain raiser.

Simpkin, upgraded from the rookie list in time to make his AFL debut last week, has made way and returns to the rookie list as Dan Menzel resumes his spot on the senior list. Schroder was recruited in the 2010 National Draft and and McCarthy the 2011 Draft, with picks 54 and 66 respectively. At the time recruiting Tsar Stephen Wells described McCarthy as a midfielder / small forward and Schroder in a similar style. Neither has completely set the world on fire nor been majorly mentioned in dispatches in recent weeks, so make of the selections what you will. Schroder has 7 goals for the season, McCarthy 5. 200 gamer Kelly returns after missing just the one game.
