AFL ROUND 14 2012; GEELONG V PORT ADELAIDE; MATCH PREVIEW
Ben Jensen 30 June 2012

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER GEELONG has made four changes to the side to face Port Adelaide tomorrow at Simonds Stadium. After initially naming four inclusions and no outs, on Friday night the Cats confirmed Paul Chapman (groin) and Josh Hunt (toe) would miss with injury, with David Wojcinski and Dawson Simpson left out of the side. Jordan Murdoch will make his AFL debut, the other three inclusions being youngsters Billie Smedts, George Horlin-Smith and Cam Guthrie. Port Adelaide settled for six changes after initially naming nine inclusions, losing five players to injury or suspension including skipper Dom Cassisi.

In other news at Geelong rookie-listed Mark Blicavs has started training full time after finally closing the book on his London Olympics dream. Biclavs was drafted in the 2011 rookie draft as a roughie of all roughies, having not played football at any level and chasing selection in the Australian Olympic team in the 1500m. He has been in Europe competing the past six weeks but arrived back in Australia on Sunday just gone.

RESULT

CATS FAR TOO GOOD FOR POWER
10 April 2011

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER GEELONG easily accounted for Port Adelaide in their first Skilled Stadium home game for 2011, their 24th win there on the trot. Max Rooke made a lap of honour around the ground to huge cheers before the Cats ran out to a guard of honour of past greats. The first quarter was a bit scrappy in very windy conditions, the Cats though in front by seven points at the change. They struggled again in the five minutes following but from that point on slammed the gate shut on the Power, booting four unanswered goals to lead by twenty-nine points at half time. The third quarter bordered on a procession for the first ten minutes, the Cats putting paid to any suggestions of a Power come-back. The boys from Alberton did however kick three in a row to finish the quarter forty-three down. Dam Menzel kicked the opener to a huge reception, but that was nothing compared to the cheers Allen Christensen got when he kicked his maiden AFL goal (See Photo). In the end the Cats, as predicted, were simply too good for Port Adelaide, winners by just under eighty points.
