AFL 2015 ROUND 3: GEELONG V GOLD COAST MATCH PREVIEW - FINAL TEAMS
Ben Jensen 17 April 2015

AFL ROUND 3 2015: GEELONG CATS V GOLD COAST SUNS FOUR CHANGES have been made to the side to face Gold Coast on Sunday, from the side that lost to Fremantle last weekend. Out are injured Andrew Mackie, suspended Billie Smedts along with Dawson Simpson and George Horlin-Smith who were both dropped. Coming in are Jimmy Bartel from injury, Steven Motlop from club suspension, Jordan Murdoch and Jackson Thurlow.

Many fans will be disappointed with Josh Walker being named an emergency, having been calling for Walker to get his go after performing well in the finals last season and in recent VFL matches. Ruck duties appear set to be taken by new recruit Rhys Stanley with support from Mark Blicavs. For the Gold Coast, or the Gold Cuns as Gerard Healy famously referred to them as, will be without skipper Gary Ablett whose immediate and also long term playing future is in question. The Suns have five changes, four due to injury and one suspension. Final teams will be named Friday evening.

The game starts at the pretty inconvenient time of 3:20PM on Sunday; not quite as bad as last year's infamous Thursday night game in Geelong but still pretty inconvenient for members based in Melbourne, Western District or other parts of the state. We understand plenty of tickets remain available so if you can make it, get yourself a ticket.

The Suns overtook the Cats in the third quarter with four unanswered goals to finish off the quarter, taking a ten point lead into the final term. From then on it was a belting, Gold Coast quickly pushing the lead over 20 points, the Cats thereafter kicking a couple goals but the margin never dropping below 21 points. For the Cats Shane Kersten in his first game kicked two goals with his first two kicks, finishing with three. Tom Hawkins, Steven Motlop and Charlie also finished with three.
