AFL 2017 ROUND 18 ADELAIDE CROWS V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS
Ben Jensen 20 July 2017

AFL 2017 ROUND 18: ADELAIDE CROWS V GEELONG CATS PATRICK DANGERFIELD has all but declared himself fit ahead of his second trip home to play his old side the Adelaide Crows this Friday night despite being seen in a ''moon boot. Amazingly first-year defender Tom Stewart has also been pronounced fit, four weeks after having an eye socket fractured. Returning for the Cats are Stewart and Scott Selwood, the latter from a hamstring injury. Out are omitted Sam Simpson who was a late inclusion last week, and Brandan Parfitt who is out with a hamstring. The Crows have made just one change with Alex Keath named to play his first AFL match, in place of Jake Lever who like Parfitt has a hamstring injury.

Stewart's injury was originally pronounced as a 4-6 week injury, (Cats injury list), and this time last week he was declared two weeks away. But on Wednesday the Cats announced he would definitely be flying to Adelaide, and may be wearing a helmet as seen at training. Lachie Henderson plays his 150th game, his 33rd for the Cats since crossing from Carlton post-season 2015. He started his career at the Lions, playing 15 games in two seasons before playing 102 at the Blues.

Scott Selwood returns from his hamstring injury, but Nakia Cockatoo remains out, also with a hamstring, and Andrew Mackie also misses with a wrist. Selwood and Mackie were both late changes from last week's side that narrowly defeated Hawthorn at the MCG, Selwood not having played since round 14 against the Dockers, the match where Stewart fractured his eye socket and brother Joel was knocked out in the opening minute.

Meanwhile the AFL's off-field office shenanigans continue to dominate Melbourne's two newspapers, Caroline Wilson and that other guy at the Herald Sun whose name escapes us throwing plenty at Gillon McLachlan who this week is at the Tour de France, and we hope enjoyed Michael Matthews' stage win yesterday. CEO McLachlan initially said the next GM of Football Operations would come from a club and not from within the AFL although this week it was said that that would not happen until the season had concluded.

CATS BELT CROWS, GO INTO SEASON BREAK ON A HIGH
Ben Jensen 2 June 2017

AFL 2017 ROUND 11: GEELONG CATS V ADELAIDE CROWS GEELONG dominated Adelaide tonight, the final winning margin of 22 points flattering the Crows, the Cats taking the foot off the pedal and the Crows outscoring the Cats by two goals in the final term. Tom Hawkins kicked two goals in his two hundredth game while game-leading goal-kickers were Patrick Dangerfield, Dan Menzel and Taylor Walker with three apiece. Joel Selwood was best afield for the Cats and took several big knocks but nothing that did damage besides a cut to the head- no concussion tests required. Brother Scott had another stand-out game and has all but cemented his spot in the side now. Dangerfield was very good early on and has certainly earned the week off, the Cats having a bye next weekend. Tom Stewart, recruited from the Cats VFL side and GFL club South Barwon had what we think is his career-best game to date. The defenders all played quite well ensuring dangerous Eddie Betts could not manage a goal and Walker's goals came relatively late in the game. Josh Jenkins was pretty much hopeless though along with Lynch kicked two. FULL MATCH REPORT
