AFL 2017 ROUND 19 CARLTON BLUES V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS
Ben Jensen 27 July 2017

AFL 2017 ROUND 19: GEELONG CATS V CARLTON BLUES GEELONG has made FIVE changes to the side to play Carlton on Saturday. Return of the Mack: Andrew Mackie returns from a wrist injury that kept him out for a fortnight, as do Nakia Cockatoo and Brandan Parfitt from hamstring injuries. Wylie Buzza has been recalled as has Jackson Thurlow, the latter has been somewhat of a forgotten man this season, dropped earlier in the seaon after coming back from a knee reconstruction in 2016. Missing are the managed Steven Motlop, dropped Rhys Stanley and Zach Guthrie, and injured Mark Blicavs (ankle) and Dan Menzel (general soreness). The Blues have made two changes.

MARK BLICAVS joined Geelong's infamous injury club this week following last Friday night's loss to the Adelaide Crows. Blicavs has a fracture in his ankle along with ligament damage, the injury not requiring surgery but may yet keep him out of the rest of the season if things don't go his way. Of course the good news is Mackie returning from the wrist along with Cockatoo and Parfitt so the injury list has reduced. Tom Ruggles again will miss even VFL football, still out with AC joint (shoulder) problems.

The Cats will be wary of the Blues, having lost to them in 2016, though back then they had Zach Tuohy who is now a Cat. Despite the loss to the Crows the Cats remained in second spot, a win over the Blues will cement this position with the Cats half a game clear of GWS and Richmond. In other news the VFL Womens side's match against the Darebin Falcons has been moved to Ikon Park as a curtain-raiser to the VFL match against the Northern Blues, the club referring to this as a 'triple header'. The VFL side has had a season to forget with just five wins, sitting in twelfth on the ladder out of fourteen, while the Women's side is in sixth (out of ten). And finally Mitch Duncan and Demi Miles, son of former Geelong player Geoff, are proud parents of baby girl Scarlet.

CARLTON WELL AND TRULY GIVE GEELONG THE BLUES
Ben Jensen 29 May 2016

AFL ROUND 10 2016: CARLTON BLUES V GEELONG CATS CARLTON handed Geelong a shock loss at Etihad Stadium today, Brendon Bolton's boys leading for most of the first quarter and from the ninth minute of the second quarter did not surrender the lead. What made the win all the better was the Blues were down to just two on the interchange bench before half time, as skipper Marc Murphy and Liam Sumner suffered ankle injuries. The Cats made a very late change losing Tom Ruggles and recalling Jordan Murdoch, Ruggles not able to get over the effects of an eye infection. Social media such as the various Facebook groups dedicated to the Cats went into a fair old meltdown, the posts equally split between those complaining about Cat fans complaining and fans going fair off the scale with "Sack Chris Scott" type arguments.
