Steven King new Top Cat
January 29 2003

STEVEN KING has been appointed Geelong's Captain for 2003, replacing Ben Graham, Captain for the past 3 years. The 2002 Geelong Best and Fairest is a popular choice as Captain, having been tipped by fans to replace Graham for several months now.

Deputising will be Vice-Captain and 2001 Best and Fairest Brenton Sanderson, and Deputy Vice-Captain Cameron Ling, a former Geelong Falcons Captain himself. Graham is said to be disappointed, but believes now that he can concentrate on playing his form in 2003 may improve.

The GFC Board met on Tuesday night to rubber stamp the recommendation put forward, led by Coach Mark Thompson, that King takeover from Graham. Thompson wanted what was best for the team, although he did feel for Graham.

Although Graham and Former Vice-Captain Peter Riccardi will be without formal leadership duties in 2003, they will still play a valuable role in leading the younger players, being two of the most experienced players at the club.
