AFL 2011 DRAW OUT; CATS' TO PLAY SEVEN GAMES AT GEELONG
Ben Jensen 30 October 2010

THE AFL has released the 2011 draw, and as expected the Cats have just the seven games at Geelong with three 'home' games at the MCG including the round one blockbuster with St Kilda, and another at Etihad Stadium against Richmond, a fixture normally at Skilled Stadium. Predictably the chatter around coffees in Geelong this morning, including at least one gym in Splashdown at in the Newcomb McDonald's, was about Geelong missing out on eight games, in particular the match against Richmond which is at Etihad. However opinions of Etihad as a venue as compared to the MCG were mixed; many preferring the standard of food and general comfort of Docklands, let along proximity to parking and trains, to the 'G. FULL DRAW

Acting Cats boss Robert Threlfall, filling in for Brian Cook who is presumably hitting it hard in Dublin this weekend, made the following official statement:

Geelong Football Club Acting Chief Executive, Rob Threlfall, makes the following statement in regards to the release today of the 2011 AFL Premiership Season fixture:

While we have received a fixture that is generally sound, our remaining point of contention is that for the second year in a row, the Club has been given only seven home games at Skilled Stadium instead of the requested eight.

The Club understands the difficult position the AFL has with the sheer volume of requests it receives, however, on our list of requests, our highest priority was for 11 home games to be broken down to a minimum of eight at Skilled Stadium and the balance at the MCG against Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, St Kilda or Hawthorn.

Whilst our request for MCG home games against three of the aforementioned clubs (St Kilda, Hawthorn and Collingwood) has been met, we will continue to work with all stakeholders to secure a return to a minimum of eight games at our home ground - Skilled Stadium.

Our fixture, while not perfect, does allow the Club to continue to provide members, fans and supporters with an experience that is unmatched in the AFL today.
