GEELONG FIGHTING TO GET SEASON BACK ON TRACK

After a fairly disastrous 0-3 start, Geelong’s season appears to be back on track, having won three of the last four.  Last round the Cats accounted for a very disappointing Hawthorn side, the week before outclassing the Adelaide Crows.

The ‘Return of the King’ may only be a week or so away, Geelong Captain Steven King almost ready to relieve makeshift ruckman Cameron Mooney.  Mooney has performed admirably, ably assisted by Henry Playfair and Ben Graham.  Steven Johnson may also not be far away from an AFL return, playing his second VFL game on the weekend.

Ford, Geelong, the AFL and a Japanese car marker have officially resolved their differences, striking up a compromise deal in which Ford will continue to be the dominant sponsor at each home game.  Toyota still get two on ground signs and also one goal post, with Ford having exclusive fence signage and the other goal post spot.  The near eighty-year relationship continues for now.

Geelong is looking to continue their unbeaten home record (2-0) against Melbourne this Sunday.  The Demons haven’t won at Geelong since the late 80’s, but the Cats will have a fight on their hands; the Demons having now won six in a row.  If Geelong’s backline, consisting of names like Scarlett, Harley, Milburn, Sanderson and Hunt prevail, then the match is winnable.

Tickets are selling fast for this Sunday’s game at Skilled Stadium; capacity is reduced to less than 20,000 while construction works are in progress on the Eastern Terrace.  The GFC have advised of additional standing room in place of the seating that was in front of the scoreboard in Round 6 (verses Adelaide).  Memberships are still excellent value, with a further nine home games over the next few months.

TIPPING COMP

‘Seb98’ is leading the competition after the first seven rounds, with a total of 39.  While only an average of 5.5, it’s enough to beat the rest of us.  TIPPING LADDER

CATS HAVE A HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY AGAINST HAWTHORN May 9 2004

GEELONG had an easy victory over the Hawks at Telstra Dome this evening. In front of a Mother's Day crowd of 28,612, Geelong won every quarter and lead for almost the entire game, after Hawthorn opened the scoring with a behind. Once again the Cats scored over one hundred points, and it could have been much more than the 56 point victory had the Cats have kicked straight. FULL STORY

NEW GEELONG FLYER KANE TENACE NAMED RISING STAR May 5 2004

KANE TENACE, Geelong's newest five-gamer from Shepparton, has been named the AFL Rising Star for Round 6. Dubbed the 'Geelong Flyer', and perhaps unfairly compared to Geelong legend Bobby "Unbelievable" Davis, Tenace has impressed in his past three matches against the Crows, Dockers, Swans and Tigers. GEELONG TOO CLASSY FOR CROWS May 2 2004

AS 'WE ARE GEELONG, THE GREATEST TEAM OF ALL' was playing throughout the stadium, Gary Ayres walked around the boundary for probably the last time. Victory was sweet for the Cats today, who surprisingly for many, outclassed the Crows. After an ordinary first half, the Cats finished behind on scoring shots but in front by two points where it mattered most. They came out and booted six goals three behinds in the third term, to Adelaide's two goals two. In the final quarter you would have expected the Crows to step up another notch but it was not to be, the Cats again outscoring them, to post a forty-three point victory. FULL STORY

POOR START COSTS CATS April 25 2004

GEELONG went down to the Fremantle Dockers at Subiaco this ANZAC day afternoon. After conceding seven goals, including the first four, in the opening term, the Cats were playing catch-up football all day. They got to within two points after booting the first four goals of the final term, but that's as far as they got. FULL STORY

CATS THRASH TIGERS April 19 2004

The Monkey finally jumped off Geelong's back last Saturday night at Telstra Dome. History repeated, as Geelong thrashed another generation of hapless tigers. On the back of Ben Graham's four goal opening term, the Cats never looked back, winning all four quarters. It was hard to find a Cat who did not contribute to the win, such was the depth Geelong displayed. FULL STORY

GEELONG SIGN JETSTAR AS BALL SPONSOR AND JUNIOR FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT

April 16 2004

JETSTAR, flying out of Geelong's own Avalon Airport are the latest corporation to sign up with the Cats. Jetstar will be the ball sponsor for all Geelong home games, starting with this Saturday night's clash with Richmond at Telstra Dome.

Importantly, the deal means there will be more football clinics aimed at junior players and clubs within the greater Geelong region.
