Welcome to the second edition of The Cattery Newsletter for 2006. The main reason is to announce a slight change in the website hosting, as well as providing a summary of recent news at the club.

This season I'm once again pleased to have the services of sports journalist Mark Heenan, who gets along to most Geelong press conferences. 2005 was a watershed season for Mark, who had dozens of articles published in print and online via AAP.

What a mixed year it's been so far; certainly sharing in the highs and lows - starting off in the best fashion possible with a pre-season premiership, but then only managing five wins and seven losses! But at least we still have a premiership, albeit it a pre-season one.

After scraping their way to the final with a depleted lineup and let alone trailing at every change in the final, who would have thought we'd have beaten the Adelaide Crows in Adelaide? Yet we won, and won in style, grinding out a win at one of the toughest grounds in the country for away sides.

Hopefully the team can repeat their success at AAMI Stadium this Sunday when they once more take on the Crows.

Gary Ablett senior's certainly been in the news again, initially good news being named the greatest ever Geelong player (Link to Story). Unfortunately since then he's been in the proverbial wars - not only nearly removing his foot with a lawn mower, being the subject of a smear campaign in the mainstream media over the sale of a video greeting, but finally being assaulted in a car yard in Latrobe Street.

While the AFL side struggles, the VFL side, the Bendigo Bank Cats, have been respectful, winning six games and losing four. Decimated by injury and forced to play with players unknown to the team, the Cats won the VFL's wooden spoon last season, and promised this season would be different with more support from local players. So far results have been mixed with several floggings for and against, but the turnaround has been welcomed. But don't expect to see the side on ABC TV any time soon! - you'll have to see them in person. Visit The Cattery's VFL section to keep track of results.

THE CATTERY ON THE MOVE (SORT OF)

AFTER nearly five years' worth of free hosting from flarn.com, The Cattery is on the move to domain.com. Gone will be the unattractive 'www.flarn.com/~keldar' address, instead all users will see a 'geelong.keldar.net' address at all times.

The move will allow more multimedia content to be provided and should result in faster downloads of music and video files.

Although users are not expected to see any difference, those experiencing problems are requested to contact The Cattery: thecattery@keldar.net.
