CATS GET JOB DONE AGAINST POWER
Ben Jensen 1 July 2012

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER GEELONG did just enough to defeat Port Adelaide in a dreary day in front of a 21-year record low crowd this afternoon. Just 13,736 punters were recorded, a hundred or so better than the crowd verses the then Brisbane Bears in 1991. After the 38 point win the Cats remain in seventh spot on the ladder with eight wins, a game behind the Premiership favourite of many, Hawthorn one game ahead. The Cats are two games clear for the time being of yet to play St Kilda and four other sides outside the eight on six wins.

Harry Taylor kicked three goals to be the leading goal scorer two games in a row at Geelong, with skipper Joel Selwood and forward Tom Hawkins the other multiple goal scorers for the Cats. It was certainly not a day for key forwards Hawkins and James Podisadly, even the smaller players Matthew Stokes, Allen Christensen and mid-sized Steve Johnson really struggled. Port Adelaide were never really in contention but gave a far better account of themselves than many had penciled in before the match, considering their lengthy injury list and lack of an official captain for the day. Next week the Cats travel from one house builder sponsored ground in Simonds to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast to face the cashed-up Gary Ablett and his Suns, who were walloped by the Eagles last night.
