TICKET ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR AFL FINALS; GEELONG MEMBERS TO GO INTO BALLOT
Ben Jensen 1 September 2007

By Ben Jensen AFL FINALS TICKETS ARRANGEMENTS have been announced for Geelong Football Club Members, including the AFL Grand Final. For the first time (for this club), a ballot system will be used. Instead of missing the finale of a preliminary final in order to commence queuing up at a distant light tower to obtain a ticket, members must register, via an automated phone system, on the Wednesday prior to the Preliminary Final, for a small cost per ticket. This includes all membership categories, including social club and 'September Member', although the latter two are guaranteed an allocation. Expect usual warnings about purchasing tickets on online auctions (Ebay, etc) in a couple weeks' time.

UPDATE - 2 SEPTEMBER 2007 CATS TO PLAY KANGAROOS IN HOME FINAL AT MCG; TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY

In Summary:

  • Finals in weeks 1 - 3 operate as in past years - first in best dressed at Ticketmaster. Members have exclusive access the first couple days
  • Grand Final Tickets - members must register, via an automated telephone service, on Wednesday 19 September 2007
  • Geelong has 30,000 members this season
  • Total allocation to the club in the order of 9,000 - 10,000 (more if a low-supported club like Kangaroos in the finals - could be up to 14,000)
  • Social Club and 'September Member' categories of Membership have first preference and a virtual guarantee of obtaining a ticket (Around 2,400 tickets))
  • Around one in three 'normal' members will obtain a ticket, depending on Geelong's opponent on the day
  • Registration will cost $2 per ticket, even if Geelong doesn't make the Grand Final or you miss out on a ticket
  • AFL Members (Full) have no entitlement via the club - must obtain tickets via AFL
  • AFL Members ('Silver' / Restricted with Geelong Club Support) - can obtain Grand Final tickets via Geelong entitlement
  • Up to eight memberships can be registered at a time - but be careful! - with an increasing size of your group, your chances of success diminish.
  • Single membership registrations will have a higher chance of obtaining a seat
  • Further information is available by calling 1300 GO CATS (46 2287)

AFL ROUND TWENTY TWO 2007

BRISBANE LIONS V GEELONG

SATURDAY 1 SEPTEMBER 2007 19:10 AEST

GABBA, BRISBANE

In other news, GEELONG, who had their winning streak narrowly broken by Port Adelaide last Sunday, look to get back onto the winning track in their final home and away match of the season against Brisbane at the GABBA this Saturday night. The Cats have resisted the temptation to recall former skipper Steven King, instead sticking with Mark Blake. Joel Selwood and Cameron Ling have both been recalled, at the expense of Henry Playfair and David Johnson. Shannon Byrnes has retained his place in the side.
