Cats too good for Kangaroos, Aaron Black with unlucky injury

Ben Jensen 9 June 2018, AFL Round 12 2018, Geelong Cats v North Melbourne Kangaroos GEELONG defeated North Melbourne by 37 points at GMHBA Stadium today thanks to a final quarter surge that snuffed out a potential Kangaroos comeback. Earlier in the day in the VFL the Cats absolutely thumped the Kangaroos, leading at half time by 15 goals seven behinds 97 to the Roos’ three behinds, somewhat easing off to win by an even 100 points. While it was claimed in 2017 that Telstra had improved mobile reception at the ground, today most could not even send or receive a text message let alone use internet services. Telstra CEO Andy Penn did not respond to a request for comment but visited the ground in 2017 to promote the ‘improved coverage’.

Gary Ablett played another blinder (see video further down of his virtuoso final quarter goal). The game was marred by an injury to Geelong’s Aaron Black in just his third game in new backman incarnation, jarring his knee early in the third term (see video below). Kangaroo Jack Ziebell received several cuts after colliding with the LED video advertising equipped fence in the same quarter. After the game Geelong coach Chris Scott said the injury appeared to be a hyperextension but they won’t know for a little while. Brother Brad Scott really carried out about Ziebell’s injury: “We’d get fined if we did something incompetent, the AFL won’t fine themselves I’m sure.; they certainly won’t give us any money back” he said.

In the VFL Stewart Crameri kicked three goals but after receiving a poke in the eye left the field before halftime not to return, seeking medical treatment off site. Names to comeback in the VFL included Lachie Henderson and Cameron Guthrie  from long term injury, while Scott Selwood also played after a shorter time off, all getting through unscathed. Cory Gregson kicked five goals, Quenton Narkle 3. Gregson was named first best for the Cats, Jackson Thurlow and Ryan Abbott next.
