Sydney Swans v Geelong Cats; AFL 2019 round 19 match preview and team lists

Sydney Swans v Geelong Cats; AFL 2019 round 19 match preview and team lists, SCG Sunday 28 July 2019 15:20PM
Ben Jensen, 26 July 2019 TOM HAWKINS will play his 250th AFL game at the SCG this Sunday afternoon. Hawkins, who made his debut in the 2007 Premiership year, played a key role in the 2009 and 2011 flags and has kicked 540 goals in this time, topping the club goal-kicking most seasons.

On Thursday the Cats signalled at least two changes – Zach Tuohy and Gary Rohan both out ‘managed’. Coinciding with Cats fans turning feral after three losses in the five matches since the bye the selectors were expected to make some changes. The ruck selection is an issue all of a sudden – Esava Ratugolea (who struggled against Hawthorn) named in the ruck with Rhys Stanley and inclusion Zac Smith on the eight-man interchange. Besides Smith the other inclusions in the initial squad were Jack Henry, Quinton Narkle, Mark O’Connor, Lachie Henderson, Scott Selwood and Sam Simpson – all named on the interchange.

Former Cat Dan Menzel is an in for the Swans named on the bench. Only one omission for the Swans so far – Will Hayward with a hip injury. Along with Menzel the other inclusions were Jordan Dawson, Kieren Jack, Ben Ronke and James Rose.

Geelong’s injury list is at just about a season-low featuring only five names, one of those Nakia Cockatoo listed as ‘test’ and in line for his first match of the season soon – but surely he will only feature at VFL level having been out so long. Sam Menegola continues his comeback after a relatively long lay-off, still in the VFL – although the Cats have a bye this round. The VFL Women, who had a bye last weekend, play pioneer women’s club Darebin Falcons on Saturday at Preston City Oval.
