Cats celebrate Ablett and Selwood milestones with convincing win over Suns

AFL 2020 round 5; GMHBA Stadium, Saturday 4 July 2020 Ben Jensen GARY Ablett, Joel Selwood and Jack Henry celebrated their milestone games in style with a 37-point win over the Gold Coast Suns at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night. Ablett’s 350th, Selwood’s 300th and Henry’s 50th was sadly played in front of an empty stadium with no family or friends able to attend, but tens of thousands of Geelong members were there in spirit.

The game soured for the Suns early unfortunately with rising star Matt Rowell forced off with a shoulder injury (see video below). In contrast no Cats came off injured. Sam Menegola played probably his best game in over a year while Mitch Duncan was the Cats’ best. Tom Hawkins kicked three goals in a pretty commanding performance but could have easily have five.

Due to Victorians being locked out of all other states the Cats left soon after for Sydney where they will play Brisbane at the SCG on Thursday night, before heading to Perth. In Perth the Cats will first play fellow quarantine club Collingwood before being able to play West Coast and Fremantle at Perth Stadium.
