Gary Rohan kick after siren sinks Bulldogs, delivers Cats sixth win on trot

Geelong Cats v Western Bulldogs, AFL 2021 round 14 Ben Jensen AN AFTER THE SIREN GOAL FROM GARY ROHAN gave Geelong victory by five points over the Western Bulldogs in front of a crowd of less than 7,000 at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night. The match saw the lead change hands no less than thirteen times, the second last one some six minutes prior to the final siren, Bulldog Toby McLean putting his side in front by one point, cancelling out a goal by Geelong’s Sam Menegola a minute or so prior.

It was Menegola who delivered the ball to Rohan just before the siren sounded, the Geelong bench frantically signalling to not play on; no problem there with Rohan having kicked twenty goals already this season going back for a set shot on a getable angle but close to the boundary line (see the video below). There were absolute scenes as the ball sailed in for a goal; a miss would have delivered a draw which perhaps would have been a fair result but the Covid-reduced home crowd erupted into scenes of joy, setting up a happy weekend in Geelong.

Next round the Cats play Brisbane at the Gabba and unfortunately Mitch Duncan won’t be there after suffering a posterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee, for which he was an early substitute from the game replaced by Shaun Higgins.
