Ollie Dempsey to make AFL debut for Cats in Tassie

Geelong youngster Ollie Dempsey will make his debut on Sunday against the Kangaroos in Tasmania, the blonde forward finding out this afternoon before breaking the news to his parents in a phone call published on the Cats’ Twitter feed (see below). The Rookie-listed 19 year old was picked up by the Cats with pick fifteen in the 2021 AFL Rookie draft after playing footy with Carey Grammar and Old Carey, not the conventional TAC Cup route due to focusing on basketball in his early to mid teens. Standing at 185 cm Dempsey has kicked several bags of goals for the Cats’ VFL side already this season and comes into a side that will be missing Patrick Dangerfield, Jack Henry and Luke Dahlhaus.
